I wish I could reduce my need for external validation. It's a long, slow process. As for one question, I'd have to go with, "What (or who) are you thankful for?"

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” I felt for years that I had to be “something”. I’ve even found myself asking my own children that question, but check myself by a self rebuttal of - you don’t have to make a decision NOW, follow your dreams…

Right?! I have changed so many times as I have "grown up." We are all already something, just as we are.

The first question that comes to my mind that changed my life was, "You know he's crazy, right?" My jaw dropped as my therapist laughed and laughed. The sun peeked through that moment for me and I remember thinking, "He really is, isn't he?" And I thought I just might make it.

I can only imagine what that moment was like for you. Having your therapist - a highly educated professional on such matters - ask the question had to have been the final powerful confirmation you needed to finally listen to the quiet voice I imagine tickled the back of your mind with those thoughts.
